Requirements For Examination
Regulations for Examination Equivalency Exemption Policy for Wise County Schools are stated below:
All students in grades 9 through 12 enrolled in an end of the course SOL test that score 400 or greater on the SOL test will be eligible to substitute a score from the SOL conversion chart in lieu of a course exam.
Students will be allowed to take examinations for the purpose of attempting to improve their final grades. In such cases, the final examination may not lower the final grade.
The end of course SOL tested subjects are:
SOL Tested Subjects
English 11
Algebra I
Algebra II
Geometry
Biology I
Chemistry I
Earth Science
World Geography
World History To 1000 A. D.
World History 1000 A. D. To Present
United States History

In the event that a score for an end of the course SOL tested subject is not received within 48 hours before the scheduled exam, students will be required to take the final examination in the end of the course SOL tested subject.

  1. For purposes of this policy, no distinction will be made between excused and unexcused absences. Students participating in approved school activities are counted present.

  2. Accumulated tardiness will constitute one or more absences. Being unexcused three times when you are tardy equals one absence.

  3. When a student has a passing SOL score of 400 or greater a designated score from a SOL conversion chart will be used as substitute exam grade.

  4. Provided they meet the above mentioned grade and attendance requirements students will be exempted from final examinations in courses other than SOL courses.
